Our Local Companies

Across retail, resources, aquaculture, minerals exploration, processing, and marine transport, Fortuna’s investments reflect a longterm commitment to diversifying the Falklands economy, strengthening infrastructure, and creating local value—while sustaining its core role as the Islands’ leading wildcaught seafood producer.

Fortuna in the Falkland Islands - A Diversified Group with Deep Local Roots

While best known as the Islands’ largest fishing quota and vessel owner, Fortuna also maintains retail, a property portfolio, marine services, and other investments that support the local economy and offshore industries.

Retail & Community: Kelper Stores Ltd

Fortuna’s broader interests include Kelper Stores, a chain of convenience outlets serving Stanley and outlying settlements with extended opening hours and daily essentials—from fresh groceries to household goods and readytoeat meals.  Kelper Stores also own two hospitality outlets, the Narrows Bar and Stanley Arms.

Natural Resources & Innovation: Warrah Resources Ltd

Fortuna is the majority shareholder in Warrah Resources, an exploration company focused on gold exploration in the Falklands.  Following the award of an exclusive exploration licence from the Falkland Islands Government (FIG) in mid2023 Warrah has applied modern geophysical techniques (soil chemistry and deep groundpenetrating radar) to derisk prospects ahead of drilling.  Two prospects are being drilled in 2026 with a newly acquired drill rig.

Aquaculture Development: Unity Marine Ltd

Fortuna is a joint-venture partner in Unity Marine Ltd, an aquaculture development company established to examine the potential for salmon farming in Falklands waters. Formed in 2019 with Danish partners, the venture has undertaken initial technical studies and site assessment work in relation to possible future development.

Any aquaculture development in the Falkland Islands would necessarily be subject to rigorous environmental assessment, regulatory oversight and wider public and stakeholder consideration. Fortuna’s wider business remains firmly rooted in wild-catch fisheries and marine operations, but its involvement in Unity Marine reflects an interest in understanding whether aquaculture models capable of meeting high environmental and operational standards could be developed in the Islands.

Local Processing & Value-Added Seafood: Falkland Islands Fish Company

To complement its frozen at sea operations and quota holdings, Fortuna supports local processing through the Falkland Islands Fish Company.  The facility—one of the world’s southernmost processing plants—aims to shorten the distance between catch and processing, enabling the first retail ready Falklands seafood brand and access to premium species including Patagonian toothfish (Chilean seabass), Kingclip, and squid. This platform links directly to Fortuna’s supply base, ensuring continuity from vessel to finished product.

Marine Transport & Infrastructure: Workboat Services Ltd

Fortuna subsidiary Workboat Services Ltd (WSL), is a Falklands marine company that operates the MV Concordia Bay (interisland ferry and cargo), MV Pharos SG (South Georgia patrol/supply), and MV Stevelly Bay (harbour launch). WSL also holds the majority stake in Atlink, managing FIPASS (the Falkland Interim Port and Storage System) in Stanley Harbour, and ELink, focusing on renewable and electric transport solutions.
