Fortuna believes that being a responsible operator in the Falkland Islands means investing not only in business growth, but in the long-term resilience of the Islands themselves.

Fortuna is proud to be proactively funding an important climate and water resilience project through the South Atlantic Environmental Research Institute (SAERI) that reflects that commitment, leading important research into the wetlands, peatlands and freshwater systems that underpin biodiversity, water security and sustainable land use across the Falklands.

As climate pressures increase and historically stable water bodies come under strain, the need for robust local data and practical management tools becomes ever more important. This project will help build that foundation through hydrological monitoring, carbon assessment, remote sensing and collaborative engagement with stakeholders. The result will be a stronger evidence base to guide adaptation, inform policy and support more sustainable land management decisions for the future.

Key outcomes include the creation of a centralised environmental data repository, detailed analysis of peatland and wetland health, improved mapping of freshwater dynamics, and accessible tools and workshops to help landowners, policymakers and conservation partners apply the findings in practice. In supporting this work, Fortuna is helping to ensure that environmental stewardship in the Falklands is informed, practical and forward-looking.
